Sunday, June 2nd-Rexburg, ID through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks

Okay, it’s confession time! Going 60 mph in a 45 mph construction zone will get you stopped in Madison County, ID every time! Here’s the story: We thought (Hum, did you smell something burning?) we’re fairly close to the Tetons and Yellowstone so why not make a day of it? The drive to Jackson/Jackson Hole was about an hour and a half, then Grand Teton NP is about 30 mins North of there, then Yellowstone is about another 30 mins North of GTNP, then it’s only about 30 mins further to Old Faithful, then it’s only about 30 mins North to the Grand Prismatic Spring . . . . . So we’re driving back to Rexburg from West Yellowstone, MT going from  65 mph zone to a 45 mph construction zone. I took my foot off the gas but he caught me dead-on going 60 in a 45 zone. Fortunately we didn’t get a ticket for one of 2 reasons: Either he saw my clean driving record or saw Soo Young resting in Diana’s lap!

Anyway, we spent the day gawking at the Tetons, Old Faithful, geysers, fumaroles, mud pots, and all sorts of other-worldly features! The Tetons are beautiful, craggy, snow-capped peaks but they can’t match the geothermal anomalies of Yellowstone. We saw bubbling craters of boiling water as small as two inches wide to as wide as 300 or so feet! This is our third trip to these two parks and they never fail to take your breathe away! We saw two herds of buffalo and one straggler laying in the grass 30 feet from a trail. Here’s a pic of him.

In another post, I’ll tell you why we seem obsessed with national parks but that’s a story for another day. Here are a couple of pics of  Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, and our campground in Rexburg.
The buffalo about 30 feet off the boardwalk trail!

You should Google image “Grand Prismatic Spring” and you’ll see a much better pic of it!
